Reproductive Rights
American women deserve better. Extremist right-wing lawmakers have been working to turn back the clock on women's healthcare - including abortion, IVF, and even birth control. These restrictions hurt all of us: limiting our health outcomes and creating economic insecurity. But they are particularly harmful for women of color and low income women, who are more likely to face additional hardships. Alabama has some of the highest maternal and infant mortality rates in the country: this is a life and death issue for moms and babies.

I am committed to championing comprehensive healthcare for women. This includes ensuring access to safe and legal abortions, robust family planning services, and essential maternal healthcare - not only during pregnancy, but also before and after. As your representative, I will fight to establish a federal right to abortion, protect women’s autonomy, and ensure affordable access to contraceptives and comprehensive sex education. By advocating for policies that prioritize prenatal and postnatal care, mental health support, and increased funding for fertility care, we can address Alabama's high maternal mortality rates and healthcare deserts.
Together, let's build a future where women's healthcare is prioritized, protected, and accessible to all.
Safe and legal abortions
Protecting U.S. abortion access requires centering the needs of the communities most harmed by restrictions.
-
As your representative, I stand firm in my commitment to ensuring safe and legal abortions for all women.
-
I will fight to establish a federal, statutory right to abortion, mirroring the principles outlined in the Women’s Health Protection Act.
-
This legislation is essential to protect women's autonomy over their bodies and ensure that access to reproductive healthcare is not subject to political whims or geographical disparities, which disproportionately affect women of color and women below the poverty line.
Family planning
Family planning is key to unlocking our vision for a fair future– one where everyone has access to good healthcare and economic opportunity.
-
Family planning is a fundamental aspect of reproductive health, and I will work tirelessly to increase funding to the Title X network of Community Health Centers.
-
All women should have affordable access to FDA-approved contraceptives. This means ensuring funding for Title X and Medicaid family planning services to support low-income women.
-
All young people should also have access to comprehensive sex education that is medically accurate, LGBTQ+ inclusive, and age appropriate so that they can make informed decisions about their reproductive choices.
-
By bolstering resources for family planning services, including contraception access and counseling, we empower women to make informed decisions about their reproductive futures.
Maternal healthcare
Addressing the maternity care crisis in the U.S. is a top priority for me, and our focus must be on care not only during pregnancy but also before and after.
-
Maternal healthcare is a cornerstone of women's health, and I will advocate for policies that prioritize the well-being of pregnant individuals and new mothers. This includes ensuring access to prenatal care, postnatal support, and resources for maternal mental health, as recommended by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
-
We will increase access to doula and midwife services, which are critical in improving maternal and infant health outcomes.
-
This is especially important when Alabama has the highest rate of maternal mortality in the country, and 6 of the 8 counties in our district are considered to be maternity healthcare deserts.
-
Moreover, addressing infant mortality requires a multifaceted approach, especially in states like Alabama, where infant mortality rates are among the highest in the nation.
-
Being denied an abortion comes with substantial health risks—especially for vulnerable groups. The risk of maternal death is 15 times higher for carrying a pregnancy to term than it is for abortion.
-
This issue is compounded by the fact that black women, who are three times as likely to seek abortions than white women, face significantly higher maternal mortality rates. Additionally, half of all women who get abortions live below the poverty line.
-
State-imposed restrictions on abortion care negatively affect the entire healthcare system, even in states where abortion remains legal. States such as Alabama, which enforce stringent abortion restrictions, struggle to draw in an adequate number of OBGYNs, leading to extended wait times and poorer health outcomes for women, irrespective of their pregnancy status.
-
By investing in maternal healthcare, we can reduce maternal mortality rates and promote healthier outcomes for both mothers and babies.
Reproductive health coverage as part of all health coverage, including federal and private plans
Reproductive healthcare is essential to the fulfillment of universal health coverage. This is about equity, dignity, and the fundamental right of every woman to make her own choices about her body and her healthcare.
-
Guaranteeing reproductive health coverage as part of all health coverage is non-negotiable. No woman should be denied necessary healthcare simply because of her gender or reproductive choices.
-
Research shows that women, particular women of color and women below the poverty line, denied an abortion are more likely than women who received one to experience economic hardship and insecurity lasting years, locking them into generational poverty and exacerbating economic hardships.
-
I will champion legislation to ensure that reproductive health services, including abortion care, are covered by both federal and private health insurance plans.
Protecting the rights of women to make their own choices about their bodies and their healthcare decisions
It’s time that we empower and respect women’s right to choose.
-
Protecting the rights of women to make their own choices about their bodies and healthcare decisions is a core principle of reproductive justice.
-
I will fiercely defend these rights against any attempts to erode them, whether through restrictive legislation or attacks on reproductive healthcare providers. Women must have the autonomy and agency to make decisions about their own bodies without interference or coercion.
Protect IVF access for all
We must act with urgency to defend IVF access and the full scope of reproductive health care.
-
The Alabama Supreme Court has set an incredibly dangerous precedent concerning IVF across the United States that has chilled providers from continuing treatments.
-
Roughly 1 in 6 people worldwide experience infertility, highlighting the urgent need to increase access to affordable, high-quality fertility care for those in need.
-
Currently, hundreds of pregnant women have been criminalized in several states under fetal personhood laws. No woman should ever be imprisoned or forced to give birth in appalling conditions because of their reproductive choices.
-
I will fight tirelessly for wider access to IVF and increased financial support for these vital services.
